Problem: Growing up in Africa, I experienced poverty and hopelessness first hand. However, recently, I came across some very damning statistics about Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo is very rich in natural resources of gold, silver, diamond, Colton, uranium, platinum and much more. They are worth to over $24 Trillion! This is equivalent to the GDP of USA and UK combined! The tragedy of this statistic is that DRC was ranked the poorest nation on earth based on the GDP of the 2009-2013 study. The per capita income was only $394.25 a year.
On the same note, UK has no natural resources and yet it ranks as one of the wealthiest nations in the world.
Solution: What is wrong with this picture? DRC is rich in natural resources but poor in human resources. That is why it has not been able to harness its natural resources to lift their livelihood.
